The Spaboy ORP/PH Probe is the replacement water-quality sensor for the Spa Boy automated salt water sanitization system on Arctic Spas. The probe sits in the spa plumbing and continuously reads two values: ORP (oxidation-reduction potential, the measure of how effectively your water is sanitizing) and pH. The Spa Boy controller uses those readings to automatically adjust salt cell output and dose pH balancer, keeping water chemistry in range without manual testing.

When you'll need a new probe: Spaboy probes typically last 12-24 months of normal use before the sensor membranes lose accuracy and the controller starts reporting drift, calibration errors, or constant out-of-range alerts. The classic symptom is a Spa Boy that suddenly seems unable to keep your water balanced — the readings on the controller no longer match what your test strips show, or the controller throws probe-error alerts during routine cycles.

Important winter shipping note: This probe ships in liquid and is freeze-sensitive. We don't ship the probe in winter to avoid freeze damage in transit. If you order during winter months, the probe is held until shipping conditions are safe — or pick it up at any of our three Ontario showrooms for immediate fulfillment year-round.

How to install: The probe replacement involves draining the spa below the probe location, swapping the old probe out, installing the new one, and recalibrating through the Spa Boy controller's setup menu. The wetted parts are straightforward; the calibration step is the part most owners want a service tech to handle to make sure the readings are accurate from day one.

Quick tips:

  • Always recalibrate after a probe replacement — don't trust the new probe's factory baseline
  • Keep your spa water balanced before installing a new probe; an out-of-range water profile during initial calibration confuses the algorithm
  • If your Spa Boy is throwing repeat probe errors, the probe is the most common single cause — controllers themselves rarely fail compared to probes
