SpaBoss X-It is a fast-acting chlorine and bromine reducer for hot tubs and spas. It chemically neutralizes excess sanitizer, bringing dangerously high chlorine or bromine levels back into the safe range so you can use the spa within minutes instead of waiting hours or days for the sanitizer to dissipate on its own.

Why and when you'd need this: The two most common reasons sanitizer climbs too high are overshooting a shock dose (a heavy bather load follows up with too much shock) and an automated chlorinator or salt cell glitch that kept generating long after it should have stopped. Free chlorine above 5 ppm or bromine above 6 ppm causes burning eyes, itchy skin, and damaged swimsuits — and at very high levels (10+ ppm), can be a real chemical exposure hazard. X-It binds the excess chlorine or bromine and converts it to a harmless byproduct that washes out with normal filtration.

When to use it: Add X-It any time your test reads chlorine above 5 ppm or bromine above 6 ppm and you want to use the spa soon. Also use it when prepping for an oxidizer-sensitive treatment (some scale or stain removers won't work until sanitizer is reduced) or when refilling after a heavy chlorine bleach treatment of plumbing lines.

How to use it: With the jets running, sprinkle X-It into the spa water at the rate of about 7 g per 1,000 litres to drop chlorine or bromine by roughly 1 ppm. Wait 15-20 minutes, then retest. Add a little more if you're still above target. Don't overshoot — stripping all sanitizer leaves your water defenceless until you re-shock or re-balance.

Quick tips:

  • Always retest before getting in — X-It works fast but you want to confirm you didn't over-correct in the other direction
  • If you have an Onzen or Spa Boy salt water system, turn down the cell output before dosing X-It; otherwise the cell will keep generating against the reducer
  • Keep a small bottle on hand even if you don't expect to need it — it's the kind of product you only realize you want at 10 PM the night before a guest arrives
